60 West Bistro & Martini Bar Saturday, Dec 31 2011

I met a friend for dinner and drinks last night at our usual abode 60 West Bistro & Martini Bar. We went for happy hour where they have $5 martinis. They have specials throughout the week so check their website ahead of time to see which one suits your fancy. FYI, the menu at the restaurant is different than what is posted on the website. Their menu has been updated for the better.

My order from last night:

To start: New Years Kiss martini (how appropriate this time of year)

To eat: 60 West burger- featuring local beef and buns

Dessert: Chocolate martini

Cake Flour Saturday, Dec 31 2011

I was super productive this morning despite not sleeping well last night. I was up at 8am, made a cup of coffee, had a banana, got dressed, and headed out. I first went to Cake Flour to pick up some goodies. It is a natural/organic bakery that has been opened for a while and is located in the NuLu district of Louisville. I have been there once before in the summer and always wanted to go back. It just took me longer to get back there than I would have liked.

I got the savory scone of the day (spicy veggie) the sweet scone of the day (orange blueberry), the muffin of the day (banana caramel), and a flourless chocolate cake to ring in the new year tonight.

I highly recommend this place

Coco’s Chocolate Cafe Friday, Dec 30 2011

So this is a gem that I have been wanting to try for a very long time. Last night after going to the gym I needed a chocolate fix. However not any chocolate would do. So I thought it would be the perfect time to try Coco’s Chocolate Cafe
If I want chocolate (or any dessert for that matter) I want the real thing.
I settled on 3 truffles to try:

1) Orange-Cranberry
2) Peppermint Dream
3) Chocolate De L’orange:

They were all delicious and left me completely satisfied

I can’t wait to go back and try some of the other desserts

Sake Blue Thursday, Dec 29 2011

I love sushi. It is one of my all time favorite foods. When I was younger I only ordered the vegetable roll but thankfully my palate had expanded since then.

Today I met my old college roommate at a new to me sushi restaurant here in Louisville called Sake Blue. It was delicious. I am convinced though that anytime I order sushi at least one of the rolls has to have either cream cheese or a fried component or best case scenario, both!

I started with miso soup and then we split the following:

We got:
1) the sweet potato roll which was like sweet potato fries in a sushi roll… Genius
2) the mango tango which had crab, asparagus, cucumber, sliced mango and a white sauce
3) the MJ roll which was deep fried spicy crawfish, fresh jalapeƱo cream cheese and mozzarella cheese

(descriptions taken from their menu- they all sound so good)

Artsy + Useful Thursday, Dec 29 2011

I went to my aunt’s house this afternoon. She and my uncle got me the following:

It is so practical! I foresee this cookbook holder getting a lot of use in the kitchen.
