Good Food Monday, Jul 30 2012

Saturday was my first visit to the St. Matthews farmer’s market since being in Alaska. I got a lot of goodies and they have been making my meals a lot tastier and interesting.

Sunday I met a good friend from high school. I had not seen her in a long time and it was great to catch up. You know it is a good friendship when you can pick up right where you left off. We met at the halfway point in LaGrange. I live in Louisville, she lives in Carrollton so this was perfect. We met at One Nineteen West for dinner. I had pepperocini peppers stuffed with pimento cheese(!) and deep fried. They came with the best hot pepper jelly. I also got a salad with fixings and bleu cheese dressing that had chunks of cheese in it-very tasty. To finish it off I had a slice of banana toffee pie and a bite of bourbon chocolate brownie. It was so good to see Kristin and I cannot wait for her wedding in October!

Ode to Zen Garden Sunday, Jun 10 2012

I have mentioned Zen Garden on the blog before but felt it deserved another post all to itself. Just as a refresher it is located in one of my favorite areas (on Frankfort Avenue) and is an all vegetarian restaurant. I have always had a pleasurable experience each time I go characterized by friendly and helpful staff, quick service, and delicious food.

First up, I had the perfect glass of green tea:

For lunch I had a veggie sushi roll and part of my beloved orange tofu. I have never actually tried another entree, this one us so perfect I crave it each time

I even had enough for leftovers the next day

Perfectly cooked

If anyone who reads this comes to visit Louisville, I highly recommend this place!

Question for some conversation-feel free to answer- If you had to recommend a restaurant to someone visiting your city which would you choose?

Hillbilly Tea Lunch Tuesday, Apr 10 2012

I have been to Hillbilly Tea once before for breakfast. Yesterday my mom and I went for lunch. I was just as impressed this time as I was on my last visit. The menu is varied and creative as well as offering meat and vegan items. This place is seriously a gem. I can’t wait to bring friends here. One thing to note is that there is on street parking. If it is during the day or afternoon, make sure you have change for the meters.

I ordered the vegan burger and had cheese and bacon added to it. For my side I got roasted sweet potatoes.

It came with a barbecue type sauce but the burger was perfect as is and so I didn’t use any.

For dessert I got some type of moon pie cookie thing. Pardon my lack of appropriate descriptors.
